Description

Manger Bouger is the French public health website on food and physical activity, run by Santé publique France, with the official recommendations and La Fabrique à menus, a free weekly menu planner that also writes the shopping list.

The site belongs to the Programme national nutrition santé (PNNS), launched in 2001 and renewed in 2006, 2011 and 2019. Its recommendations are sorted into what to eat more of (fruit and vegetables, pulses such as lentils, beans and chickpeas, unsalted nuts), what to move towards (wholegrain bread, pasta, semolina and rice) and what to cut down on, such as products with a Nutri-Score of D or E. A separate page explains the new Nutri-Score. No advertising was seen on the pages read, and an optional account keeps favourites and menus.

La Fabrique à menus was launched in 2013 by INPES, Santé publique France’s predecessor, with more than 2,300 recipes. It suggests lunches and dinners for the week, lets users exclude foods or swap a meal, and turns the menus into a shopping list sorted by aisle. Comparison sites describe it as free, without ads or subscription. When checked in November 2026, the menu planner and the recipe pages were offline: the site said they had been taken down as a precaution during maintenance for a security flaw.

Strengths

  • The advice comes from France’s public health agency under a national programme, not from a food brand or a diet company.
  • The recommendations are concrete: more pulses and nuts, wholegrain cereals, fewer products with Nutri-Score D or E.
  • La Fabrique à menus plans a week of meals and makes the shopping list from it, free and without ads.

Weaknesses

  • In November 2026 the menu planner and the recipes were offline for security maintenance, with no date for their return.
  • The site’s accessibility statement says it does not meet the accessibility standard (“non conforme”).
  • The menus are for the general public and don’t suit people on a diet prescribed by a doctor.

Who it is for

Households in France who want to eat more balanced meals without paying for an app, and need help planning a week of menus and the shopping that goes with them.
