Description
Énergie Partagée lets savers in France invest in wind farms, solar roofs, small hydro plants, wood-fired heating and biogas units owned and run by local residents and councils. It is both a movement, founded in 2010, and an investment company, Énergie Partagée Investissement, that buys stakes in such projects.
More than 7,700 citizens hold shares, and the company had committed about €52.7 million to more than 200 projects by March 2025. A project only gets money if it carries the Énergie Partagée label: residents, councils or the movement must control the operating company, returns to capital are capped, and decisions are taken democratically. The company holds the ESUS status for solidarity enterprises and the Finansol label, and a board of elected shareholders checks its accounts.
Since the general meeting of November 2025 a share costs €129, plus a 3 % entry fee (at least €5), with no custody or exit fees. Its value went from €100 until 2016 to €129 in 2025, about 3.3 % a year on average since 2019, and small dividends have been paid since 2023 (€1.20 a share in 2025). The shares are not listed and the capital is not guaranteed. Money can be withdrawn once a year and takes six to eighteen months to come back; the recommended holding period is ten years.
Strengths
- One share, €129 plus fees, is enough to take part.
- The money only goes to projects controlled by residents and local councils, with capped returns.
- The share price has risen every year since 2017, and dividends have been paid since 2023.
Weaknesses
- Part or all of the money can be lost, since the capital is not guaranteed.
- Getting money back takes six to eighteen months, and withdrawals are only possible once a year.
- A 3 % entry fee, and no tax relief outside a PEA account.
Who it is for
Savers in France with money they won’t need for about ten years, who want it to build renewable energy near them.
