Description
Spareka is a French website that helps people repair their own household appliances: free fault diagnosis, more than 900 free tutorials, video help from a professional technician and spare parts for appliances, garden tools and pools. It is an alternative to throwing away a broken washing machine or paying for a technician to come out.
The company, based in Montreuil near Paris and run by Geoffroy Malaterre, has 36 employees. It says it has sold 8 million parts to a million customers and helped save 1.2 million appliances since 2012. Customers find the right part from the reference on the appliance’s label; in-stock parts ship within one to two working days. Some parts are sold by third-party sellers on its marketplace, who ship them themselves.
For a large appliance out of warranty, a package of unlimited video calls with a QualiRépar-certified technician costs €50 for a washing machine, dishwasher or tumble dryer, €40 for a vacuum cleaner and €25 for an oven, hood or coffee machine (checked November 2026). The state repair bonus pays for it if the repair succeeds, and Spareka waives the fee if it doesn’t, so the customer only pays for the part. Spareka says 78 % of these customers fixed their appliance themselves, and 63 % of faults needed no new part. New parts carry the two-year legal warranty.
Strengths
- More than 900 free tutorials in French, many on video, and a free fault diagnosis.
- Video help from a certified technician that costs nothing for eligible large appliances, thanks to the repair bonus.
- A large catalogue of parts found by the appliance’s reference, with in-stock parts shipped within two working days.
Weaknesses
- Some parts come from third-party sellers on the marketplace, with their own shipping, so prices are worth comparing.
- Return shipping is paid by the customer, which weighs on a cheap part ordered by mistake.
- Repairing appliances on water or mains power needs care, and the video help doesn’t guarantee success.
Who it is for
People in France whose washing machine, dishwasher or vacuum cleaner broke after the warranty, and who are ready to change the part themselves with a technician’s help by video.
