Description
Yarrah is a Dutch brand of organic dog and cat food, made with certified organic ingredients, including vegetarian and vegan food for dogs.
Jan Jaap Roelevink founded it in 1992 in Harderwijk, in the Netherlands. He sold it to the investment firm Vendis Capital in 2012, which sold it on to AAC Capital in 2017. Yarrah became a certified B Corp in 2019. After a bankruptcy in 2024 the brand was bought by Premium Petfood Brands, a pet food maker in the Benelux owned by Roelevink, so it is back with its founder.
The range covers dry and wet food, pâtés and treats for dogs and cats, with organic meat, fish and grain, and a plant-based line for dogs. The site shows the EU organic logo and the Dutch Beter Leven animal welfare label. In November 2026 a 12-pack of 150 g pâté for dogs cost €21.49 and an 800 g bag of cat kibble €10.99. Delivery from the web shop is free over €50, and the food is also sold in pet shops and organic shops, which the site lists by location.
Strengths
- The ingredients are certified organic, which rules out synthetic pesticides and sets rules on how the animals behind the meat are kept.
- A vegetarian and vegan range for dogs cuts the share of meat, the main climate cost of pet food.
- The brand is back with its founder after years with investment funds.
Weaknesses
- Most of the range still contains meat or fish, so its impact stays well above plant-based food.
- The company went bankrupt in 2024, and whether the B Corp certification survived the takeover was not confirmed.
- A 150 g tray of dog pâté comes to about €1.80 even in a 12-pack, before delivery under €50.
Who it is for
Dog and cat owners in Europe who want organic food from a brand outside the big pet food groups, and dog owners ready to try a plant-based diet.
