Description

Worn Wear is Patagonia’s programme for used and repaired clothing: the outdoor brand buys back its own garments, resells them second-hand and repairs them under its Ironclad Guarantee, so that a jacket can be worn for more years before a new one is bought.

In the United States customers can trade in Patagonia items for store credit and buy used gear online; a US mail-in option for trade-ins was added, which isn’t available in Europe. Older coverage said trade-ins earned about half of the resale price, while a recent guide estimates around 20 % of the original retail price, with the final amount set after inspection. In Europe, Patagonia’s pages say every Worn Wear item is covered by its Ironclad Guarantee and can be brought back to a store for repair, and describe a resale space in the Berlin store; one undated page says Worn Wear is currently only available there.

When checked in November 2026 the Worn Wear website showed a maintenance notice.

Strengths

  • Used Patagonia clothing gets a second life instead of being thrown away, and the brand takes responsibility for its own products.
  • Repairs under the Ironclad Guarantee help garments last longer.
  • In the United States, trade-in credit and online used sales make it easy to pass on gear that is no longer worn.

Weaknesses

  • In Europe the second-hand offer seems limited to the Berlin store, and online trade-in is for the US.
  • Trade-in credit is only a fraction of the original price, and only for Patagonia products.
  • The Worn Wear website was under maintenance when checked in November 2026.

Who it is for

Hikers, climbers and outdoor fans who own or want Patagonia clothing and prefer repairing or buying used, especially in the United States or near the Berlin store.
