Description

Mobicoop is a carpooling website and app that takes no commission and shows no advertising: passengers share the driver’s costs, paid online, and nothing is added on top.

It grew out of the association Covoiturage-Libre, founded in 2011 when Covoiturage.fr (now BlaBlaCar) started charging; members voted in 2018 to turn it into a cooperative (SCIC) based in Montauban, which merged with Rezo Pouce in 2021. Its 1,100 members vote on a one person, one vote basis, and its software is free software. It also works for about 1,200 towns, départements and regions on local carpooling, solidarity transport and Rezo Pouce hitchhiking.

Strengths

  • No commission and no advertising.
  • Run by its users as a cooperative, on free software.
  • One app also gives access to local council schemes and Rezo Pouce.

Weaknesses

  • Far fewer rides than on BlaBlaCar, especially for long trips.
  • Data is also used for analytics and to show ads on partner platforms.

Who it is for

Drivers and passengers with a regular trip, such as the commute, in an area where the local council works with Mobicoop.
