Description

MesAidesVélo is a free French website that lists the public subsidies for buying a bike: after entering where one lives, it shows which aids from the town, the intercommunality, the department and the region can be claimed. It is an alternative to searching every council and regional website, since no public body publishes all these aids in one place.

The developer Maxime Quendalle started the project as a volunteer. The 1jeune1solution team at beta.gouv.fr funded it for a while; from October 2024 Emile Rolley, first within the public J’agis project and then at the cooperative Calinou, kept the aids up to date, and in May 2026 Quendalle took development back. The aids are entered by hand into an open data set on GitHub, which other public services also reuse, and anyone can report a missing or outdated aid there. The code is free software under the AGPL licence.

The site uses no cookies. It measures its audience with Plausible, shows the figures on a public statistics page and lets visitors opt out. Councils and associations can embed the simulator on their own site for free. MesAidesVélo only lists the aids: the application still has to be made to each body.

Strengths

  • One search covers aid from the town, the intercommunality, the department and the region, down to the level of each commune.
  • Free, with no account and no cookies, and the audience statistics are public.
  • The aid data are open on GitHub, reused by other public services, and anyone can report an error there.

Weaknesses

  • Each aid is entered by hand, so a new one may be missing and an expired one may still appear.
  • The project has changed maintainer several times since its launch, and the site doesn’t say how it is funded today.
  • Applications still have to be made separately to each body, with its own forms and conditions.

Who it is for

Anyone in France about to buy a bike, especially an electric, cargo or adapted one, who wants to know in a few minutes which local aid to apply for.
