Description
France Rénov’ is the French public service for home energy renovation, run by the national housing agency Anah. Its advisers give free, neutral advice on insulation, heating, ventilation and the public grants available, by phone on 0 808 800 700 (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm) or in more than 600 local advice centres with some 2,800 advisers.
The main grant, MaPrimeRénov’, depends on household income, sorted into four colour bands. For a major renovation of a home rated E to G that gains at least two energy classes, it covers 80 % of the works (up to €30,000 or €40,000 before tax) for the lowest incomes and 10 % for the highest. Since 1 September 2026, houses that keep gas heating are no longer eligible. A major renovation requires a Mon Accompagnateur Rénov’ adviser, whose fee is covered at 20 to 100 % depending on income, up to €2,000. Single jobs are funded too, for example €3,000 to €5,000 for an air-to-water heat pump (checked November 2026).
In 2025 Anah helped renovate 379,428 homes, 120,306 of them in full. The grants are not automatic and depend on the year’s budget. The public service never sells by phone, e-mail or at the door, and the works must be done by RGE-certified firms.
Strengths
- Free and independent advice from advisers who sell nothing.
- One phone number and more than 600 local centres to find a way through grants that change often.
- Grants of up to 80 % of the cost of a major renovation for the lowest incomes.
Weaknesses
- Waiting times can be long in busy areas.
- The rules change often, and the grants depend on the yearly budget.
- Builders still have to be found and checked, and a major renovation requires a paid accompanying adviser.
Who it is for
Owners and tenants in France who plan to insulate or change their heating.
