Description

“Énergie moins chère ensemble” is the group purchase of electricity and gas run by UFC-Que Choisir, France’s largest consumer association, through its subsidiary Que Choisir Ensemble. Households register for free, the association puts suppliers out to tender on its own terms, and each household then decides whether to take the winning offer.

The first campaign, for gas, ran in 2014. In the latest electricity campaign, in autumn 2025, Octopus Energy won with a price per kWh 21.1 % below the regulated tariff before tax, fixed for two years apart from taxes and network charges. It was open to the first 150,000 subscribers in areas served by Enedis, except Corsica, and 130,000 households took it, for an estimated average saving of €175 a year. The contract can be cancelled at any time without cost, the supplier must answer complaints within 30 days, and the association follows up disputes during the first year.

Subscribers pay €12 (€6 for members) towards the cost of the operation, about €300,000 on average; the association says it takes no money from the supplier. It puts the total saved by households since 2014 at nearly €132 million. There is no gas campaign in 2026, because no offer was good enough.

Strengths

  • Free registration, and no commitment before seeing the offer.
  • Estimated savings of €101 to €485 a year in 2025, depending on consumption.
  • Cancellation at no cost, complaint deadlines written into the contract, and follow-up by the association in the first year.

Weaknesses

  • At most one campaign a year per energy, and none for gas in 2026.
  • Subscribing costs €12 (€6 for members), and the 2025 offer was limited to the first 150,000 subscribers.
  • The winner is chosen on price, not on how green its electricity is.

Who it is for

Households in mainland France heated by electricity, who gain most from locking in a low price for two years.
