Description

Donnons.org is a website and app for giving objects away between private people in France: you post an ad for something you no longer want, or pick up for free what someone nearby is giving. Its motto: “Nothing is lost, everything is given.”

Ads are sorted into 17 categories, from furniture and appliances to clothes and games, and can be browsed by town and département. The site was created in 2006 by the company Sopheos, works with the reuse company Indigo Réemploi and claims nearly two million users. Advertising is its main source of revenue, and there are no fees or commissions.

Strengths

  • Free for givers and takers, on the web and in the app.
  • Search by town or département to find things nearby.
  • Categories from furniture to clothes and games.

Weaknesses

  • Run by a company and funded by advertising.
  • No recent figures on the objects actually given.
  • Pick-ups between strangers don’t always go smoothly.

Who it is for
